This way, you can read and reset codes for yourself without paying the shop. Just look for ones advertised as reading 'all systems' and for Mercedes-Benz. There are some fairly affordable ($100 or so) tools that will do this such as the Autel DiagLink, iCarsoft (i980, MB-II v 2.0 or v3.0) and the Foxwell n510 Elite. A generic $25 OBDII scanner won't do this.

I'd scan codes using a tool that can read your car's proprietary systems. This sounds more like 'limp mode' which could be a transmission problem. In fact, most people don't realize there is a problem except for the MIL being illuminated. Swirl flap problems usually don't affect performance so drastically. If you have more cars than will show there, then add them to your 'Signature'. This information will be of great assistance to others when trying to help you. I know you may have mentioned some of this in your initial post, but having it in your profile, it will appear on all of your posts in the left pane, below your name and avatar photo. Fill in the information for your 'Location' (at least state/country), and your 'Vehicle Details' (model and year).
